Xinhao’s Academic Pages

Welcome to my academic homepage!

My name is Xinhao Pan, and I’m a second-year PhD student at Deakin University, affiliated with the Planet-A Sustainability Science research laboratory. My PhD is supervised by Professor Brett Bryan, Dr.Michalis Hadjikakou, and Dr. Jinzhu Wang. My research lies at the intersection of land-use modelling, GHG emissions, biodiversity, environmental economics, and sustainability science, focusing on how societies can transition toward sustainable, equitable, and climate-resilient futures. In my current work, I employ the Land-Use Trade-Offs model (LUTO2) to explore strategies for achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity restoration, and food security within Australia’s environmental limits.

I am also deeply interested in land system science, sustainable development, landscape ecology, natural resource management, climate change, ecosystem services, biodiversity conservation, and energy transitions. I am passionate about integrating data-driven modelling, systems thinking, and policy analysis to inform real-world decisions that balance environmental sustainability with economic and social wellbeing. My academic journey is driven by curiosity, collaboration, and a belief that effective solutions to global challenges require both scientific rigor and human empathy.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and my academic background. Please feel free to explore my research and publications further on this site.
